Marking spray for markings in the timber and forestry industry

Marking spray for markings in the timber and forestry industry – STRONG MARKER
STRONG MARKER is an acrylic-based marking paint for wood, manufactured with lead- and cadmium-free mineral and organic pigments. The color pigments, the urethane alkyd binder, and the special propellant mixture of propane and isobutane are responsible for minimizing the environmental impact of this marking spray, which is often used in nature. The excellent durability of STRONG MARKER, even on damp surfaces, makes the marking paint suitable for long-term use in the great outdoors. Its range of applications therefore extends far beyond forestry, as STRONG MARKER can also be used to create long-term markings, for example on hiking trails.
STRONG MARKER is a non-fluorescent long-term marking spray
Thanks to the mineral and organic pigments without heavy metals, markings made with STRONG MARKER on wood remain visible for years. A complex mixture free of aromatic components or chlorinated solvents is used as the solvent.
STRONG MARKER marking paint for wood is available in white, blue, yellow, black, green, orange, and yellow-brown.
Properties of STRONG MARKER
- Non-fluorescent marking paint for wood
- STRONG MARKER offers excellent marking durability of four to six years on trees and all wooden surfaces. The durability of STRONG MARKER depends on the condition of the marked surfaces, UV radiation, and the external conditions during application. Although STRONG MARKER is fundamentally UV-stable, UV radiation has a long-term effect on visibility and durability.
- STRONG MARKER can be used on the bark of almost all trees and on processed wood.
- STRONG MARKER also offers good adhesion to damp bark or damp wood.
- The drying time is approximately one to one and a half hours.
- The markings are very weather-resistant.
- STRONG MARKER can also be used reliably in cold and hot conditions: the processing temperatures range from minus 20°C to plus 50°C.
Areas of application for STRONG MARKER
STRONG MARKER is the ideal marking spray for use wherever markings on wood need to be durable and remain clearly visible. Examples of the use of STRONG MARKER marking paint for wood in forestry include the marking of future trees, long-term marking of trees, and boundary markings.  STRONG MARKER is also used in forestry for marking property boundaries or compartment lines in forests. However, the forest is also a recreational area and is used for tourism. STRONG MARKER is used, for example, to mark hiking trails, special event areas, or quiet zones for animals.

Using STRONG MARKER effectively and safely
Marking wood cleanly and permanently with marking paint is easy with STRONG MARKER if you follow a few application tips. Using the aerosol according to the manufacturer's instructions also increases the service life of the spray cans.
- Before marking, shake the can thoroughly with the spray head pointing upwards.
- Shake for at least one minute to prevent the pigments from settling and clogging the nozzle.
- STRONG MARKER is used with the spray head pointing upwards.
- The tree or other wooden surface to be marked is marked at a distance of approx. 10–15 cm.
- The STRONG MARKER nozzle must be cleaned after use. This process is also known as “purging.” To purge the spray, spray with the spray head pointing downwards until empty gas escapes.
Accessories for forestry work with STRONG MARKER
STRONG MARKER wood marking paint can be sprayed onto trees or wood by hand without any accessories. The spray handle, which is specially designed for forestry work, enables more accurate and less tiring work. The spray handle with trigger lever simplifies working with STRONG MARKER in the forest. The spray can holder, which can be worn on a belt, also helps. We offer spray can holders for one or two spray cans. This keeps your hands free when moving around in rough terrain, which increases safety during forestry work.
Choosing the right wood marking paint
Foresters, forestry workers, hunters, forest workers, foresters, or even people working in tourism who want to apply markings in the forest or on wooden surfaces should answer a few questions in advance in order to choose the right wood marking paint. How many different colors are needed to convey different information? The fundamental question is how long an applied marking should last. If trees to be felled are being marked, there is no need to apply a long-term marking. A wood marking paint that only lasts for a limited period of time is sufficient for this purpose. For long-term markings, hiking trail markings, marketing markings, or division lines, resistant marking paints such as STRONG MARKER are available.
Technical details of STRONG MARKER wood marking paint
- STRONG MARKER is supplied in aerosol cans with a net volume of 500 ml.
- The gross volume including propellant is 650 ml.
- STRONG MARKER is supplied in packs of twelve cans.
- The propellant is a mixture of isobutane and propane.
- STRONG MARKER can be used at temperatures between minus 20°C and plus 50°C.
- STRONG MARKER color mixtures are made from mineral and organic color pigments without the use of lead or cadmium.
- Urethane alkyd is used as a binder.
- A complex mixture without the use of chlorinated solvents or aromatic compounds is used as a solvent.
Safety instructions for STRONG MARKER wood marking paint
- STRONG MARKER wood marking paint is an extremely flammable aerosol that can cause the pressurized can to burst when heated (hazard warning H229).
- There are no other hazard warnings for STRONG MARKER

What is the best way to mark wood?
There are various methods and paints available for marking wood. The easiest and quickest way is to use a suitable spray paint, preferably in a spray handle suitable for the spray can. However, wood marking paint can of course also be applied with a brush. However, using a brush and paint bucket in the great outdoors is very cumbersome, especially in rough terrain. Suitable chalks are also available for short-term marking of trees.
What can forestry marking paint be used for?
The areas of application for forest marking paints are very diverse. Markings for forestry work, road construction work, skid trails, or for the removal of timber from the forest are a common reason for short- or medium-term markings. In the long term, trees are marked to identify future trees, mark hiking trails, and define division lines or boundaries. Hunters, conservationists, and tourism professionals can also use long-lasting marking paint to mark refuges for endangered animals or protected areas for rare plant species.
How is forestry marking paint tested?
Technima forestry marking paint is subject to the strict product criteria for our paints that are intended for use in the great outdoors. Technima wood marking paints are mixed from organic and mineral pigments without the use of heavy metals. The complex mixed solvent does not contain any aromatic compounds or chlorinated solvents.
What are the differences between forestry marking paints?
In addition to the different ingredients used in marking paints from different manufacturers, it is particularly important to consider how long a marking paint should last. For short-term work such as felling, skidding, or transport, forestry marking paints with a durability of a few weeks to a few months are perfectly adequate. If a marking paint is to mark a tree for a longer period of time, for example as a future tree or as a marker for a path, a boundary marker or a marker for a shelter, then a forest marking paint such as STRONG MARKER should be used, which lasts four to six years on wooden surfaces or tree bark.
How long do markings on trees last?
How long markings on trees last depends on the marking paint used for wood and the condition of the wood or bark. There are paints for short-term markings that disappear after a few weeks and are easy to remove. Marking paints for long-term marking also adhere to damp wood, but their durability also depends on the condition of the substrate. UV radiation also reduces the durability of markings on wood, even though STRONG MARKER, for example, is fundamentally UV-resistant. On trees that lose their bark, even the best forestry marking paint will only last until the next bark change. Trees such as birches, plane trees, or silver maples, which regularly lose their bark naturally as they grow, should therefore be avoided for long-term markings on trees.
